AEBR at EURO-MED Conference to strengthen territorial cooperation

AEBR participated in “Connecting the dots: the Path to a smarter and greener Mediterranean,” a Conference organised by EURO-MED to discuss future cooperation in the region. IVY volunteers Panagiota and Raphaël brought the perspectives of youth.

On 21 and 22 November 2023, AEBR was invited to participate in the conference “Connecting the dots: the Path to a smarter and greener Mediterranean” organized by EURO-MED in Ljubljana.

With many stakeholders from across the Mediterranean region, participants discussed how to jointly shape the future of governance in the region through Interreg and beyond it. The objective was to initiate an institutional dialogue and enhance networks among various organisations active in the territories.

AEBR took part with the double objectives of representing border regions in this effort to create new opportunities to cooperate for shared governance of the Mediterranean region and illustrate concrete opportunities to collaborate and foster cooperation: the Interreg Volunteer Youth programme and b-solutions.

On this occasion, AEBR was also invited to share suggestions to foster synergies in a context like EURO-MED and to give insights into current developments of policies for Cohesion Policy.  “As AEBR’s President Karl Heinz Lambertz has often pointed out, now we are facing a new generation of cooperation, and it’s up to us to make it inclusive and all-encompassing to make sure that areas of cooperation are truly integrated. Ultimately, this will help us create a Europe that can best respond to the needs of its citizens and works best with its neighbours, which is very much needed now”, concluded Cinzia Dellagiacoma while intervening.

IVY Manager Cinzia Dellagiacoma took part in the Conference on behalf of AEBR. And two participants of the Interreg Volunteer Youth programme, Raphaël and Panagiota, were also invited to take the floor to share their perspectives on cooperation from the point of view of young people. Panagiota and Raphaël pointed out the importance of involving young people so that they can contribute their competences to projects and to their own municipalities, enhancing participation and collaboration across generations, too.
